Canadian Interior Designer Selling Mid
Toronto-based designer Montana Labelle is known for bringing texture, warmth and a modern neutral palette to her projects. Her own home in the South Hill neighborhood of the city is no exception, and it's now on the market for C$5.98 million (US$4.46 million).
Labelle teamed up with her husband, Russell Gozlan, founder of the boutique construction management firm Gozlan Group, to give a Mid-Century Modern home a contemporary makeover. Together, they designed and curated a design-forward home with a "warm, lived-in, eclectic style that feels both modern and traditional and most importantly, Zen and relaxing," Montana said in an email.
The renovation was quite an undertaking and "executed beautifully," according to Jane Zhang of Sotheby's International Realty Canada, who listed the property last week. The design hides the home's technology and includes arched entryways and other curving features.

"Finally we’re seeing something different from everything else in Toronto," she told Mansion Global. https://a1b77a820a69b25b7c4bc84702cbd4f0.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-40/html/container.html
Everything is new in the home, including the HVAC system, the plumbing and electric work and the home-automation system, Zhang said. Marble, textured tiles and ceramics were brought in to give it an organic feel, and Montana used vintage finds and handmade artists’ pieces throughout the home.
Indeed, Gozlan called it a "labor of love."
"Each detail is meticulously thought out," he said in an email. That includes the fluted marble fireplace and microcement double vanity with a freestanding bronze mirror. "One of my favorite elements is the white standing-seam metal roof. You do not see that everyday in Toronto. The design is so unique."
Marble can be found throughout the four-bedroom, six-bathroom home—there's even a bespoke Rosso Verona marble bed. Italian Emperador marble was used for the kitchen counter and island, while the dining room table is Walnut Travertine marble, Zhang noted.

The kitchen also offers a textured backsplash with ceramic tiles made by Toronto-artist Catherine Carroll of Black Rock Studios, as well as JennAir integrated appliances and a Lacanche stove.
Other amenities include a gym with heated floors and full marble shower on the lower level, an office loft with built-ins and a bathroom and a limestone porch with a treated pine ceiling overlooking the backyard.
Zhang said she expected the home would appeal to younger, ultra-high-net individuals who want to be close to—but not in the middle of—the restaurants and shopping in Toronto, which South Hill offers.
"It is also conveniently located near many of Toronto's highly regarded public, private and Catholic schools," Zhang said.
