Air fryers can obviously air-fry, but they can also reheat, bake and more. Finding one with a good rotisserie function, however, can be tricky. At the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, we’ve tested over 40 toaster ovens and more than 50 air fryers in recent years — after looking at many options with rotisserie capabilities, we've narrowed the top-performing picks down to the Instant Pot Vortex Plus and the Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo.
An air fryer with a rotisserie function offers a cooking experience unlike roasting in a traditional oven or a standard toaster oven or air fryer. The rotisserie’s rotating spit suspends the meat, allowing it to rotate as it cooks. This ensures that all sides are evenly exposed to the heating elements, resulting in uniform cooking and a beautifully browned exterior. Additionally, the suspended roasting method allows juices to drip away, so your food doesn’t sit in excess fats and oils, making it a healthier cooking option.
If you want to easily make rotisserie chicken at home, our top pick is the Instant Pot Vortex Plus air fryer oven, a type of air fryer that often comes with rotisserie attachments. We also recommend the Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo, which is an air fryer toaster oven. The two styles differ in design and functionality. Here’s how each performed in our Lab tests.
One of the reasons the Vortex Plus is among our favorite air fryers is its rotisserie function, which makes roasting chicken easy — even for beginners. This model from Instant allows you to cook whole chickens, pork roasts and more. In our testing, we used the rotisserie to roast a 4-pound chicken, and the result was a juicy, evenly cooked bird with perfectly browned skin.
The process was straightforward: we inserted the spit into the chicken, placed it in the oven's designated roasting hooks and used the intuitive control panel to set the time and temperature. During cooking, the drip tray, which also serves as a baking sheet, caught all the juices, making cleanup hassle-free. The 10-quart air fryer also comes with a roasting basket that evenly crisped and browned French fries during our tests.
In addition to roasting chicken, the Vortex Plus excelled at air-frying chicken wings on the included perforated tray. The wings were evenly cooked and crispy on both sides while staying juicy inside. However, when we baked a cake, we found the air fryer’s powerful fan and heating elements to be a bit too strong. For delicate baked goods, we recommend reducing the cooking time to account for the oven’s intensity.

The Cosori Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo performed exceptionally well in all of our tests, earning some of the highest scores. When using the rotisserie setting, we found the chicken to be incredibly juicy, evenly cooked and beautifully browned all around. The included food tray conveniently slides into the bottom shelf to catch any juices, protecting the heating elements from drips and splatter. This tray can also be used for baking or broiling.
The set comes with an air-fryer basket and, of course, a rotisserie spit. There are handy presets for cookies, bagels and pizza, as well as traditional functions like baking, toasting, broiling and more. Another standout feature is its size — despite its large 32-quart capacity, the oven isn’t bulky like many similar models.
One observation during testing was that the chicken wings needed a bit more time on the air-fryer setting, exceeding our usual 20 minutes. While they required extra cooking time, the wings were still juicy, evenly cooked and had a perfectly crispy exterior.
At the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, we've tested over 50 air fryers and 40 air fryer toaster ovens. For models with a rotisserie function, we evaluate doneness, even cooking and juiciness using 4-pound chickens. In models with rotisserie baskets, like the Instant Pot Vortex Plus, we test French fries for browning, moisture and even cooking.
✔️ Type: When shopping for an air fryer with rotisserie, you first have to decide whether you want a standalone air fryer oven or an air fryer toaster oven. An air fryer oven is an air fryer that typically has several air fryer shelves instead of a basket. Its heating elements are often on the top of the oven. This style is great for air-frying foods that benefit from cooking in a single layer, like different types of protein. Many also come with rotisserie spits and baskets. An air fryer toaster oven is a toaster oven that can toast, bake, roast, broil and often more in addition to air-fry. Some come with a rotisserie feature, but it’s not common.
✔️ Exposed heating elements: To prevent a lot of smoke while cooking, Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab Director Nicole Papanoniou recommends looking for air fryer toaster ovens with protected heating elements. "It's ideal to have a model that protects the calrods, a type of heating element, from grease and juices that can splatter and drip while cooking. If they aren't protected, grease hitting the elements can cause lots of smoke or even fires."
✔️ Size: If you plan on cooking larger items, keep an eye on the size of the oven. According to the brand, the Instant Pot Vortex Plus can handle a chicken that is up to 4 pounds. Cosori doesn't list the maximum weight that the Air Fryer Toaster Oven Combo can hold, but the oven has a 32-quarts capacity. While testing both machines, we used 4-pound chickens which easily fit into each.
Roasting with a rotisserie provides delicious, juicy and evenly cooked food — providing different results compared to traditional roasting which doesn't expose all sides. The great thing about air fryers with a rotisserie function is that they are so versatile. They have all of the traditional air frying or air fry toaster oven features but can also roast, which is something that most appliances don't offer.
You have plenty of options from meats to veggies, as long as the food is large enough to fit on the spit, or small enough to fit in the air fryer. Popular foods to cook in a rotisserie are a whole chicken, pork roast, whole peppers and pineapples.
